Rebuilding of Kisadahki school in Uganda

As my next project I have decided to fundraise and rebuild 2 classrooms for a primary school in the remote Kamuli district of Uganda in aid of the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund. This will ensure the sustainability of the school and assist in developing basic education which is essential to alleviate the poverty of the region and its dependence on subsistence farming.

Pests, poor harvests, and collapsing prices since 2000 have left most of the people, who previously relied upon coffee for their livelihood, struggling to support themselves and their families. As families continue to grow, poverty will continue to worsen unless people find another way to support themselves other than subsistence farming. The only way that this is possible is if they have a basic education.

The school was started in 1998 by the local community. At present the school has 8 classrooms for close to 1200 children which means an average class size of 150. It is impossible for the staff to deliver quality education to classes of this size and the government have promised that if more classrooms are put into place at the school, then more teachers will be posted to the school, thus class sizes can be reduced and the quality of the education of the school improved.
