Haiti and the Asia Pacific region have been hit hard by a series of earthquakes, tsunamis and typhoons in recent times and it remains on high alert. Millions of people (often poor rural communities) have been affected, homes destroyed, loss of life and thousands injured.
- IDP and Refugee Crisis - Congo, Afghanistan
At the end of 2008 there were an estimated 26 million IDP’s (Internally Displaced People) around the world and 14 million refugees. They are usually displaced due to armed conflict, violence, human rights violations or natural disasters and many of these are children.

Sub Saharan Africa is more heavily affected by HIV and AIDS than any other region in the world. An estimated 22 million people are living with HIV in the region. Since the beginning of the epidemic more than eleven million children have been orphaned by AIDS.
