Hugo's Diary
The Volunteer works alongside charities that focus on humanitarian issues worldwide. It aims to take the experience of volunteering overseas to a wider audience in the hope of inspiring people to do something different while also raising awareness and funding for the projects that the charity coordinates.

- Slum Life for Street Children - Brazil
Rio de Janerio – About 1.3 million people live in Rio’s 750 favelas. Most live without proper sanitation or electricity and the favela’s are run by drug gangs who are at war with each other and the police. Countless children are forced onto the streets due to domestic violence, abandonment, dysfunctional families, drugs and violence - Natural Disaster Relief - Haiti, Indonesia
Haiti and the Asia Pacific region have been hit hard by a series of earthquakes, tsunamis and typhoons in recent times and it remains on high alert. Millions of people (often poor rural communities) have been affected, homes destroyed, loss of life and thousands injured. - IDP and Refugee Crisis - Congo, Afghanistan
At the end of 2008 there were an estimated 26 million IDP’s (Internally Displaced People) around the world and 14 million refugees. They are usually displaced due to armed conflict, violence, human rights violations or natural disasters and many of these are children. - HIV and AIDS - Africa
Sub Saharan Africa is more heavily affected by HIV and AIDS than any other region in the world. An estimated 22 million people are living with HIV in the region. Since the beginning of the epidemic more than eleven million children have been orphaned by AIDS. - Abandoned Orphans - Eastern Europe
One of the most tragic legacies of the communist era was the consequent disintegration of the family, leading to a dramatic rise in the number of children who were left without parental care, and condemned to life in bleak, state-run institutions which barely met the basic needs of orphans in their care. - Conservation and Ecology - Namibia, India
The future of wildlife is inextricably linked to the communities that share its habitat. There are now widespread concerns for rhinos and other endangered species around the world and the ecosystems that they share.

The other local volunteers were amazing and when one gets involved in things like this it always amazes me what special people you meet, ordinary people doing ordinary things to help, but it means so much.
